Vale of Glamorgan Community Review recommendations accepted without modification

The Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, Jane Bryant MS, has announced that she has agreed the recommendations of Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru following its review of communities in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The Commission recommended changes to the boundaries of 25 communities in the Vale of Glamorgan, as well as to the electoral arrangements of 25 communities.

259 responses were received during the review’s 2 consultation periods.

Responding to the announcement that the recommendations had been accepted, Chief Executive of Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru, Shereen Williams MBE OStJ said:

“The Commission is delighted that the first of its community reviews will now be implemented without modification.

“We’d like to thank the Cabinet Secretary for taking this decision, and also thank our partners in Vale of Glamorgan council, all the community and town councils in the Vale, and the members of the public who engaged so constructively in the review.

“Reviewing and updating the boundaries and electoral arrangements of communities is crucial in ensuring that people across the Vale of Glamorgan continue to receive the best representation, and that local changes to populations, for example where new housing estates have been built, are reflected in the boundaries of communities.”

The recommendations of the Vale of Glamorgan community review will be implemented in full without modification.

The changes will take effect at the next ordinary local government elections.
